About the NIHS Educational Program

Who We Are

North International High School (NIHS) is an integrated, international studies program. It is college preparatory and designed to appeal to students who value global understanding and communication, cultural differences, and awareness about global environmental and technology issues. NIHS is seeking authorization to become an IB affiliate and to graduate its first International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma candidates in 2010.

The North International High School, through the interdisciplinary study of the history and cultures of nations, international languages, information technology, and global science and mathematics topics, prepares students for responsible living in an international community.

What is the International Baccalaureate

NIHS is applying for IB affiliation because IBO is a recognized program of excellent international education, encouraging students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. According to the International Baccalaureate Organization, the IB is a challenging two-year program of international education for juniors and seniors. The IB prepares students for colleges by encouraging them to:
* Ask challenging questions
* Learn how to learn
* Develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
* Develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

More information is available on the International High School web site.

Special Educational Opportunities

There are many ways students can be involved and make NIHS a rich, global, academic experience.

Model United Nations: Approximately 120 District 4J high schools students participate each year.

Eurasian Conference: Sophomores from all 4J International High Schools participate.

Pan-African Conference: Freshmen from all 4J International High Schools participate.
