Additional Opportunities for Students

There are many ways students can be involved and make NIHS a rich, global, academic experience that enhances their learning.

Student Government: Students can be a part of the NIHS student government and plan activities for NIHS students, such as dances, competitions, and fundraisers. NIHS Student Government also works together with EIHS Student Government to plan joint international activities, such as the Film Festival and the Fall Picnic.

Model United Nations: Approximately 120 District 4J high school students participate each year in this simulation of the United Nations. In April, a statewide MUN event, attended by students from all across the state, is held in April.

Eurasian Conference: Sophomores and their teachers from NIHS and EIHS participate in a day-long simulation of international relations.

Pan-African Conference: Freshmen and their teachers from NIHS and EIHS participate in a day-long celebration in African arts, performances, and activities. After weeks of studying Africa, NIHS and EIHS students get the next best thing to visiting the region. Students come together for the Pan-African Conference at the Lane County Fairgrounds for a combined lesson in geography, language, current events and music.

International activities: Students have opportunities each year to travel with teachers to workshops and conferences in Spain, Tanzania, Australia, Russia, Africa, and many other countries. NIHS teachers will announce opportunities in the fall.

Student Body Cards

A student body card allows students to attend all North Eugene athletic contests involving District 4J teams and other North Eugene events (dances and plays) at a reduced cost. Student body card receipts are used to carry on activities as determined by the Student Council. Students are not required to buy the card. However, without a card, students pay regular student prices for activities.
