Freshman Calendar

Take a peek at the advanced level courses you’d like to take during your junior and senior years and make sure you are meeting the prerequisites.

Take time to understand the difference between high school graduation requirements and college entrance requirements. Click here to go to the requirements page.

Pay attention during special guidance curriculum presented in Social Studies and English classes. They will be providing important information about transcripts, required classes, career center info, and 4-year plans.

Take ACT Explore Exam in October to assess your skills and plan courses.

Attend the Mid-Willamette Valley College Fair in October at Lane Community College.

Get involved in an extracurricular activity. Activities look good on college admissions forms.

Parents of students who are in credit difficulty are notified after final grades at the end of the freshman year.

Sophomore Calendar

Fall and Winter Checklist
Check your full-year schedule when you return to school to make sure you are enrolled in the correct courses for both graduation and college preparation.

Participate in career guidance unit presented in English and Social Science classes.

Meet and get to know your counselor.

Take the PSAT Exam in October to asses your schools and plan your future courses. This important test will help you when you take the SAT.

Attend the Mid-Willamette Valley College Fair in October at Lane Community College.

10th Grade CIM testing happens at various times during the year. For example, if you are taking math in the 1st semester, that’s when you can expect the exams to be given.

Attend the CAM assembly and consider enrolling in the CAM (Certificate of Advanced Mastery).

Continue involvement in extracurricular activities. These look great on college entrance applications.

Spring Checklist
Update your 4-year plan and plan your schedule carefully during spring forecasting. Make sure that you will be meeting not only your high school graduation requirements, but also college entrance requirements.

Be sure to check out College Now courses and Advanced Placement (AP) courses than can count towards college credit. Click here for more info.

Junior Calendar

Fall Checklist
Check your full-year schedule when you return to school to make sure you are enrolled in the correct courses for both graduation and college preparation.

Be sure you are on track to complete your requirements for the CIM.

Take the Preliminary Aptitude Scholastic Test (PSAT) in October for skill assessment and college planning.

Spend a free period, at least once a week, in the Career Center to explore colleges, programs, and scholarships. Develop a preliminary list of 10-15 colleges that are a good fit for you. Browse web sites for scholarships. Get to know your counselor.

Pay attention to the guidance information from your counselors that you will be given over the year within your English class.

In October, various college representatives come to North including representatives from all of the Oregon University System Colleges. College Fair at LCC is held in October. Click here for a complete list of visits and fairs.

Winter Checklist
Attend the “After North” evening meeting for juniors and parents. We review: options for all students after high school; PSAT scores; the college selection and application process; and all aspects of financing higher education

Set up a Junior Interview with your counselor beginning February 1.

If you haven't already done so, juniors are encouraged to select a CAM. Keep working on it, if you have.

Spring Checklist
Update your 4-year plan and plan for your senior year schedule carefully during spring forecasting. Make sure that you will be meeting not only your high school graduation requirements, but also college entrance requirements.

Be sure to check out College Now courses and Advanced Placement (AP) courses than can count towards college credit. Click here for more info.

Any students who plan to graduate on an Individualized Graduation Plan (including IHS students): Your completed plan must be approved by your counselor and sent to the school board no later than May 1.

Take the SAT or ACT 1 in May or June. These scores are needed by colleges with fall application deadlines. Click here for more details on college testing.

Take the AP or IB exams in May. If you are taking AP or IB classes this year, take the SAT 2 in those subjects in June.

Continue researching colleges and narrow down your search to a "short list" of about 6 by the end of this year. Request applications and the required scholarship information and forms from colleges on your short list. Ask if they require financial information forms in addition to the FAFSA.

Consider visiting colleges on your short list during Spring Break.

Request letters of recommendation from teachers in AP, IB, or other advanced classes during the last term of this year (for use in your senior year). Give at least two weeks notice.

Summer Checklist
Update and word process your Activities Resume.

Review your transcripts. Meet with your counselor in August if needed.

Visit college campuses and other programs on your “short list.” What you see and learn on these trips will be invaluable.

Start work on required essays for your college and scholarship applications. Organize your college materials and due dates before senior year. Create a timeline and flow chart.

Senior Calendar

Counselors hold senior meetings for parents and students periodically during the year to remind you of tasks and deadlines.

Fall Checklist
Check your full-year schedule when you return to school to make sure you are enrolled in the correct courses for both graduation and college preparation.

Set up a Senior Interview with your counselor as soon as you arrive back at school to review your full-year schedule, graduation requirements, and post-high school plans.

Attend the "After North" evening meeting with your parents entitled "Graduation and Beyond" in September. Click here for more info.

Attend the "After North" evening betting with your parents entitled "How to Pay for Higher Education" in November. Click here for more info.

Complete applications for College Entrance Testing (SAT 1, SAT II, ACT). Click here for deadlines and info.

Attend “Coffee Talks” during Oct. and Nov. to work on completing college applications.

Check the scholarship board in the Counseling and Guidance Center at least once per week.

Request remaining letters of recommendation from teachers that may be needed for college applications. Request forms area available in the Counseling and Guidance Center. Please give teachers at least two weeks notice.

Work on college applications early and often. Rewrite...rewrite...rewrite. Keep copies of everything you submit. Click here for deadlines.

Winter Checklist
Order grad announcements, cap, gown, etc.

Finalize application essays and complete admission procedures.

In December, get a PIN number that you will need to submit the FAFSA. It can take up to two weeks, and you will want to have it by January 1. Review the FAFSA form so that you have enough time to gather the information you will need.

In January, Fill out the FAFSA. Submit application January 1-31. Parents: Prepare IRS tax returns early to determine eligibility.

Spring Checklist
OSAC Scholarship application due March 1.

Review financial aid offers from colleges; get assistance from your counselor.

Turn in 4J Honor Diploma Application to your counselor no later than the end of Term 3. Click here for more info.

Request final transcripts by May. They need to be sent to your college of choice by June 1. Forward medical forms to schools requiring a physical exam as a condition of admission.

Pick your college, send in a deposit, and notify other colleges of your decision.

Submit college acceptance information to Counseling Department by May 15 for inclusion in graduation and awards ceremony brochures.

CIM and CAM completion deadline is in May.

Pick up graduation tickets in early June.

Request course descriptions and schedules from your college of choice.

Confirm housing arrangements.

Graduate!
