Food For Lane County Summer Youth Farm Crew

The Youth Farm offer its participants:
• Educational activities, field trips and guest speakers on gardening, etc.
• Training in customer service, leadership and team work
• Experience in marketing produce
• Fresh organic fruits and vegetables
• Opportunity to serve the community by helping to feed the hungry
• *Healthy physical activity, adult mentoring and supervision

• A daily stipend of $20 to cover expenses

In addition, volunteer opportunities are available for school and youth groups and people of all ages, a youth run farm stand and community garden for families to grow their own vegies. Forestry Communication Dispatcher

The Oregon Department of Forestry is seeking a Forestry Communication Dispatcher in their Eastern Lane Unit. The Eastern Lane Unit is responsible for wildland fire protection for Private, State and BLM grounds located inside the Eastern Lane protection boundary of Eastern Lane County. The primary purpose of the dispatcher position is to provide communications, dispatching, personnel tracking, firefighting resource coordination, resource ordering and associated record keeping for the Eastern Lane Unit. FILLED Volunteers are needed for the following Relief Nursery Holiday Events:

Annual Campaign Mailing - November 6 thru November 8th from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. Every year the Relief Nursery mails out packets to individuals all over the county informing them of their services and requesting financial support. The goal is to raise $100,000 this year. Help is needed stuffing these important documents to be mailed out - any time you can come and help would be appreciated.

Holiday Heart Tag Party - November 12, 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Help is needed to making holiday heart ornaments for the children at the Relief Nursery. Each child served at the Relief Nursery and their sibling needs two hearts each so they can receive gifts for Christmas. Last year with volunteer help, 2,300 hearts were made and this year we anticipate we need to make even more.

Gift Sorting Night - December 17, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This is a very special night as the gifts purchased by the community for the children are sorted and organized. We need all the help we can get to complete this in a timely manner.

Food for Lane County is looking for responsible students that like to have fun. There are two parts to this volunteer happening. The first part takes place a week before Halloween. We will be placing small bright orange fliers on chosen neighborhood doorsteps announcing our service on Halloween. The second part is dressing up Halloween night, 6:30-8:30p and trick-or-treating for non-perishable food. The buddy system is encouraged so no one goes alone. One car for each group is a must because the food will get heavy. Each group is responsible for themselves and attaining a car. The Science Factory is holding a Halloween Extravaganza on Friday, October 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. They will have a haunted forest, carnival, two mad scientist labs, costume contest, haunted hallway, food, crafts and pumpkin launching. They normally have about 400 people attend the event and they need a lot of volunteers to help prepare for the event between now and Oct. 26. This would be an easy Saturday or Sunday group project with you and your friends or your club. Example of things to be done:
- Painting pictures for the haunted hallway
- Making a giant spider and spider web
- Making giant tombstones, bones, ghosts and a coffin.

FILLED Volunteers Needed every other week with Ferret Shelter Cleaning and Shelter maintenance.

Volunteers would assist with care for shelter ferrets at the shelter. Volunteers are needed to:
*clean cages, carriers, and litter pans
*change bedding
*wash and fill food bowls, water bottles, and water dishes
*play with ferrets to provide exercise for them
With training, volunteers may assist with trimming nails and cleaning ears. Volunteers must be polite and respectful of the ferrets and other volunteers. Ferret knowledge is helpful, but not necessary. Volunteers should not be afraid of ferrets. If any student is interested in any of these events, please call 484-1090 to volunteer.
