Certificates of Mastery:
CIM & CAM

What are CIM and CAM?

The Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) represents student achievement within a set of academic standards set by the Oregon Department of Education. These standards include minimum scores on a series of academic tests as well as demonstration of student skills through work samples. Student work samples are evaluated by our teachers using guidelines provided by the State. All students are strongly encouraged to complete the CIM before graduation from high school, but it is not a requirement for earning a diploma. Earning a CIM is noted on the student’s transcript, and students receiving a CIM are awarded recognition at graduation.

The Certificate of Advanced Mastery (CAM) represents student exploration and achievement in a specific career area of interest. The process of earning a CAM involves
• working with a CAM advisor to formulate career goals
• taking courses in high school that develop career interests
• working in the community to gain experience in a future career area
• identifying education and training needed for the future
• production of a portfolio that represents the advanced accomplishments the individual student.

Students are encouraged to complete a CAM while in high school, but it is not a requirement for earning a diploma. Students who receive a CAM will have it noted on their transcripts, and they will also be recognized at graduation.
