Special Education
Educational options and support
The purpose of the Special Education program
is to provide appropriate educational opportunities for students who are
eligible according to the federal guidelines of the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (I.D.E.A.). Determination of student eligibility and placement
under I.D.E.A. guidelines is the legal responsibility of the Special Services
Team (S.S.T.) at each school.
About the Learning Center
The Learning Center Program has been designed
to provide the educational options and support necessary for eligible students
to make satisfactory progress toward their educational goals. An Individualized
Education Plan (I.E.P.) is written for each student, and an annual review
is held to discuss progress and set goals. Small class sizes are essential
in order to provide individual support. When a student no longer needs
the services of the Learning Center Program in order to achieve school
success, the student will be moved into the regular education program.
Our goal is to provide students with the skills, the confidence, and the
self-motivation that they will need for a successful transition into the
world of work, independent living, and further education or training.
