NEHS HIGHLANDER STUDENT NEWS
North Eugene High School Open House
Join us at 250 Silver Lane as we officially celebrate the opening of the new North Eugene High School building, the first traditional high school built in the Eugene-Springfield area in more than a half-century.
Tuesday, October 10, 6:30–8 p.m.
There will be self-guided tours, light refreshments, speeches and, of course, a ribbon-cutting.
The 216,000-square-foot, two-story school building has the capacity for 1,200 students. It includes 52 classrooms; a 425-seat auditorium; and main and auxiliary gyms and other spaces for physical education. It has numerous features to support the learning and identity unique to the home of the Highlanders, according to the project’s architects, Rowell Brokaw of Eugene and Opsis Architecture of Portland:
-
The flexible space within supports various career and technical education (CTE) programs, including construction technology, digital arts and media, health services, child development and education, and culinary arts.
-
The central courtyard allows daylight to reach each classroom and suppot space, keeps outdoor activity internal to the school in a secure location, and offers informal meeting space and covered areas for eating and teaching.
-
The library/media center, which can be used as a community space, is positioned on the second floor of the building’s front facade and illuminated at night to serve as a beacon.
-
The entry plaza offers easy access to the performing arts auditorium and the main gym.
-
The community health center with its own discrete entry and vestibule on the school building’s southwest corner.
The project’s construction manager and general contractor was Lease Crutcher Lewis of Eugene.
The project was made possible through voter approval of 4J's bond measure in 2018. Thank you, voters! We look forward to showing off this beautiful new building.
Dance Team Showcase
This is a formal invitation for you to attend the North Eugene Dance Team Showcase on Saturday, October 7th in the NEHS Gym. The show starts at noon along with a silent auction and bake sale. Our Facebook, Instagram, and website have more information regarding the team and our upcoming events, which you can like/follow for updates.
The kids greatly appreciate your support and hope you can come to our show, where we will perform most of our routines we have this season. We also compete statewide and locally and would love to see familiar faces in the stands if you have the time and interest. It is a pleasure to support our athletic teams by performing for their games and we would love to have support for our events/competitions as well. We perform at every home football halftime, as well as assemblies, boys and girls basketball games, and other events.
Come check out our show!
