Family Newsletter 10/2/23
Dear North Eugene Families,
While hard to believe, this week begins our fourth week of school for the year. If you have not already, please become a parent Observer in Canvas. This gives you the opportunity to check grades and progress in your student’s classes. If you have any questions, please reach out to individual teachers, your student’s counselor, or a grade-level administrator.
After finishing our third week, our regular attendance is currently at 88%. We know it is very early in the school year, but we are calling this a win. Our attendance plan has gone into play this week, so students struggling with attendance will start having meetings with administrators and being placed on attendance/disciplinary plans.
As the school year goes on, we will continue to update you all on data points such as this one.

Walk N’ Roll School Challenge
The Walk+Roll Challenge is next week. It’s a competition that challenges students to incorporate physical activity like walking or biking into their trips to and from school. High school students need 60 minutes of physical activity per day to stay healthy. Walking, biking and rolling to school can help you reach this goal. So get active next Wednesday, October 4, for your health and for a chance to win prizes!
International Walk+Roll to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and rolling to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event, over time, it has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school. Today, thousands of schools across America–from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico–participate every October. Walk+Roll to School Day takes place on the first full week of October each year!
Thank you to our partners and sponsors: Oregon Department of Transportation, and Oregon Screen Impressions.
Our school will be raffling off fun prizes like bike helmets, bike lights, coffee gift cards, and a few skateboards on Wednesday! Make sure you get your raffle ticket from our campus supervisors as you arrive to school in the morning ! 🚴🏻
Parent Drop-Off/Pick-Up Zones & NO-Parking in the Bike Lane
Dear Parents and Students,
We hope you’re excited about our new school year! To ensure a safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up experience for everyone, please take note of the following procedures:
- No Stopping at Entrances/Exits: Please refrain from stopping your vehicles at the entrances/exits. This is crucial to maintain a smooth flow of traffic and to prevent congestion.
- Two-Way Traffic: Kindly make way for two-way traffic within the parking and drop-off zones. Staying in designated lanes will help prevent accidents and delays.
-
Student Parking: The parking lot to the left of the lot entrance is reserved for student parking. Parents, please use designated areas for drop-off and pick-up only which are located in the front of the school. See picture.
-
Bike Lane Respect: It’s important to remember that the bike lane is NOT to be used for parking or stopping. This keeps our cyclists safe and ensures proper traffic flow.
Please be aware that the local police department (EPD) will be monitoring the area to enforce these rules and maintain safety. Their presence is to safeguard everyone in our school community.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in making our school a safer place for everyone. Let’s work together to ensure a smooth start to the school year. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to safety!

North Eugene High School Open House
Join us at 250 Silver Lane as we officially celebrate the opening of the new North Eugene High School building, the first traditional high school built in the Eugene-Springfield area in more than a half-century.
Tuesday, October 10, 6:30–8 p.m.
There will be self-guided tours, light refreshments, speeches and, of course, a ribbon-cutting.
The 216,000-square-foot, two-story school building has the capacity for 1,200 students. It includes 52 classrooms; a 425-seat auditorium; and main and auxiliary gyms and other spaces for physical education. It has numerous features to support the learning and identity unique to the home of the Highlanders, according to the project’s architects, Rowell Brokaw of Eugene and Opsis Architecture of Portland:
- The flexible space within supports various career and technical education (CTE) programs, including construction technology, digital arts and media, health services, child development and education, and culinary arts.
- The central courtyard allows daylight to reach each classroom and suppot space, keeps outdoor activity internal to the school in a secure location, and offers informal meeting space and covered areas for eating and teaching.
- The library/media center, which can be used as a community space, is positioned on the second floor of the building’s front facade and illuminated at night to serve as a beacon.
- The entry plaza offers easy access to the performing arts auditorium and the main gym.
- The community health center with its own discrete entry and vestibule on the school building’s southwest corner.
The project’s construction manager and general contractor was Lease Crutcher Lewis of Eugene.
The project was made possible through voter approval of 4J’s bond measure in 2018. Thank you, voters! We look forward to showing off this beautiful new building.
