Dear North Eugene Families,

Good afternoon!  This will be our last week of Semester 1. Finals Exams will be happening over this 4-day week, ending with a grading day for teachers on Friday. The building will be closed on January 31. Look out for students' grades in the mail in the first week of February. There will be a theater performance of Romeo & Juliet on Wednesday and Thursday, and a Special Schedule on Thursday with all 8 periods. It's our only C Day of the year (so far!) thank you for your support!

NEHS HIGHLANDER STUDENT NEWS  

Romeo & Juliet Performance has been postponed 1/29 & 1/30

NEHS Theatre's production of Romeo & Juliet has been postponed as our Romeo has come down with a very high fever. 

The run will continue next week on Wednesday and Thursday, January 29th and 30th. Until then, we're going to keep improving the show to ensure that you see a great production! If you've already purchased tickets, we'll honor them at either performance next week. If you haven't purchased tickets yet, you can do so by clicking the link below, or you can buy tickets at the door on the evening of the performance.

Special C Day Schedule on January 30
Congrats Speech and Debate Team!
Speech and Debate team competed in their VERY FIRST competition this past weekend at Lewis and Clark College, and they did awesome! Here are some highlights:

• Camille Brintnall and James Damewood placed 2nd in Novice Public Forum debate
• Samara Cooper and Selena Briganti placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in individual speaking for their Novice Policy debate
• Griffin Simmons made it to semi-finals for impromptu speaking, which is probably the hardest/scariest event (in my opinion!)

Robotics Team Looking for Judges

Greetings!

North Eugene High School is hosting a robotics tournament on Feb 8, and some of our judges have had to bow out. I was wondering if you could reach out to your industry partners to find people in any discipline who would be interested in volunteering for a full day of judging a robotics tournament. The day will consist of:

Arrive around 7 (start time is still being calculated)
5 sessions of interviewing/judging teams about their design journey

Selection of potential candidates for awards

Circulating through competition areas to see specific evidence for award differentiation

Finish between 5 and 6pm (end time is also being calculated)

The North Eugene Robotics Division needs volunteers to help us decide who gets these trophies!

FOCUS Homework Club - Extended Hours - January 29
FOCUS homework club is holding a special session for students needing help to pass their semester 1 classes! 
On Wednesday, January 29th from 2:30pm-4:30pm, please join us and get help with your semester 1 assignments before the semester is over. Lane Community College Foundation Scholarship
   Are you planning on attending LCC in the fall? Are you seeking financial aid to help offset the cost of college? 
   The Lane Community College Foundation Scholarship is open and the deadline is March 4th. There are scholarships for every background, major, etc! One easy application for hundreds of scholarships with over $1 million awarded every year to LCC students. 
   The application does require several steps so we strongly encourate you to start NOW: applying for admission, setting up a Lane gmail account, and including unofficial transcripts. All the detailed instructions are listed here.
   And if you haven't already submitted your financial aid application, either the FAFSA or ORSAA, do so as soon as you can!
   Students can also get tons of help with the scholarship process and access LCC scholarship workshops here!

Quest by Cycle Badge Design Contest - Calling All Young Artists!

The bicycling game Quest by Cycle has been awarded a grant to host the Quest by Cycle Badge Design Contest, a unique opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and contribute to a community-wide environmental initiative. Quest by Cycle (QbC) is a scavenger hunt-style game that encourages players to complete eco-friendly cycling tasks and earn badges as recognition for their accomplishments.

This contest invites artists of all ages to design badges that will be awarded to players in the Quest by Cycle game who complete sustainable cycling quests. These badges not only recognize achievements but also motivate players to stay engaged with the game and commit to reducing their carbon footprint.

Key Details:

• Submission Dates: February 1–28, 2025

• Eligibility: Open to artists of all ages, with a special focus on youth and underrepresented artists

• Entry Fee: Free

• Prizes and Recognition:

  • Your design featured in the Quest by Cycle game!

  • A prize valued at ~$30 (e.g., bike accessories, etc.).
