Hello NEHS Families! ❤️💛
We’re heading into another busy week at North! Students are settling into the rhythm of the school year, FOCUS Homework Club is up and running, and fall sports continue with plenty of home and away action.
A few reminders for the week ahead: THURSDAY is an Advisory day, Wednesday is Early Release.
There’s always a lot happening at North, so be sure to check the calendar for game times, events, and the latest updates. Have a great week, Highlanders!

A quick reminder for NEHS families: teachers update gradebooks at least every two weeks.
We encourage families to check Canvas regularly to stay informed about assignments, due dates, class updates, and student progress.
Checking in together is a great way to catch missing work early and help students stay on track. ❤️💛

🤒 Feeling sick? Please stay home.
As we head into cold, flu and respiratory illness season, here’s a quick reminder to help keep our school community healthy.
Please keep students home when they are sick. Students may return when their symptoms are improving overall and they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. Some symptoms or illnesses may require additional time at home.
After returning from a respiratory illness, the CDC recommends taking extra precautions for the next 5 days to help prevent spreading illness to others. These can include wearing a well-fitting mask, practicing good hand hygiene, keeping some distance from others when possible, and testing when appropriate.
❤️ Staying home when you’re sick — and taking a little extra care when you return — helps protect classmates, staff and families and keeps more Highlanders healthy and in school.
For specific health concerns, families should contact their healthcare provider.

The National Honor Society is recruiting new members for the 2026-27 school year. If your junior or senior student is interested in joining the NEHS Claymore Chapter National Honor Society, please pick-up an application in Ms. Trujillo's room 244 before or after school or during lunch.
NHS applications are due Wednesday, October 28th, 2026. Students are required to complete 45 community service hours and maintain a 3.6 GPA in order to earn an honor cord at the end of their senior year.

4J is exploring a new multi-pathway Honors Program that could recognize student achievement through academics, Career Technical Education (CTE), and community service.
We’re asking current 10th and 11th grade students to complete a short, anonymous survey and share what they would want from a program like this.
Student feedback will help shape any future proposal — no program decisions have been made.
The survey takes about 15 minutes, and participation does not commit students to anything.
10th & 11th graders — we want to hear from you!

We know dismissal is busy! Please help us keep our campus safe and accessible for everyone by remembering:
Do not park or wait in designated accessible/handicap spaces or loading zones unless you are authorized to use them.
Please keep the bike lane clear — it is not a parking or waiting area, even for a quick student pick-up. There is plenty of parking in our Student and Staff lots for you to wait for your student outside of these no idling zones. You can even have your student meet you at the old North Parking lot for better ease of departure after school!
Thank you for your patience during dismissal and for helping keep pathways clear for our students, families, cyclists, and community members.

We had some questions last week about what "Flex Advisory" means. During some weeks we have Advisory periods, and students go to their assigned Advisory class. These are typically used to disseminate information to all students about a specific topic, such as schedule forecasting.
During other weeks we have Flex Advisory periods, which are designed to help students that need to make up a test or get extra help from a specific teacher have focused time to do so. These periods are designed to be during the school day to increase student participation and ensure that they are accessible to all students. Teachers will identify specific students that they would like to see in their classes during this time, but students can also sign up to go to class with a specific teacher.
Students who do not need to use the time to make up work are given the time to read.

For those who don't know, IBDP students take exams and internal assessments in six IB classes, write a 4,000-word college-level research paper, and complete Creativity, Activity, and Service projects over the course of junior and senior year. IBCP students take at least two IB exams and assessments, complete a CTE program of study, and write an extensive Reflective Project on an ethical dilemma in a career field they are interested in. Both programs are incredibly demanding but offer huge rewards to students who successfully complete them.
